FREE & REDUCED MEALS: Free and Reduced Meal Applications must be filled out each year. It does not matter if a student received free or reduced price meals last year, they must fill out a new application each year. We will provide assistance in filling out free and reduced meal applications during the school year in the Child Nutrition Office located at Mullins School. Office hours are from 8 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Forms are also available from the cashier at your school or in your school office. Until a meal application is approved for the student, he or she will have to pay for his meals. The cost of breakfast will be $1.25 and the cost of lunch will be $2.00

BREAKFAST REALLY IS IMPORTANT: The school breakfast program in the Brookhaven School District offers a wide variety of healthy foods that meet USDA requirements and supplies 1/4 of the Recommended Daily Allowances children need.

Health is academic … it takes more than books to learn … breakfast is the most important meal of the day … these “catch phrases” have been said and heard many times; nonetheless, they are very true. Numerous studies have shown that:

 - Children who eat breakfast tend to have more adequate intake of nutrients, vitamins and minerals including protein and calcium.

 - Children who eat breakfast tend to have a lower Body Mass Index (BMI); they tend to be less overweight. The children are less likely to overeat during the rest of the day.

 - Children who eat breakfast perform better in school academically and behaviorally, this means better grades and less discipline problems.

If your child receives free or reduced lunch benefits, he or she will receive the same benefits at breakfast. Of course a free breakfast is at no charge, a reduced breakfast is $.30 and a full price breakfast is only $1.25.  Encourage your child to eat breakfast in the cafeteria this school year.  As always, we welcome you to come enjoy a meal with your child!
