ATTENDANCE POLICY

ALL absences will count toward the total number allowed. (whether excused or not!)

A maximum of ten (10) absences will be allowed per one unit class. Five (5) absences will be allowed for one-half unit courses. (A student must be in a class at least 35 minutes to be counted present in that class.)

Loss of credit will result in classes where the maximum number allowed is exceeded; In compliance with the purpose and intent of the Compulsory Attendance Law, absences which result from an out-of-school suspension will not count toward loss of credit, and the absences are excused as a matter of statutory law. Absences due to school events will not count toward the number allowed.

Students are responsible for work missed during an absence(s). Students have the same number of days to make up work as the number of days they were absent. If the absence is the result of a suspension or is the result of truancy, major grades only may be made up. If a student is absent two (2) or more days, the student may call the guidance office to get class assignments (601-833-7937).

No student will be allowed to participate in ANY school activity on the day of an absence. A student must at least attend one-half of the school day in order to be eligible to participate. One-half day is defined as being present in at least four of the seven classes. This includes all organizations, athletics, cheerleading, performances, practices, meetings, etc. Note: Students must attend at least one-half day on the Friday immediately preceding participating in ANY school activity on a Saturday. This includes being able to attend prom on Saturday evening. Special permission to participate may be granted by the principal upon written request by the parent with proper documentation of illness or family emergencies.
